The Yellow Finch Project is a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 organization created by a dedicated group of theater and educational professionals.  Its mission is to enhance the lives of young people with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other social-communication issues through dramatic arts. Combining the best of several educational and theatrical disciplines, Yellow Finch Project has created a unique program that opens doors for young people who struggle with communication to celebrate their creativity and cultivate new connections to the community.

OUR STORY…

The Yellow Finch Project was inspired by The Red Kite Project of Chicago, and in 2012 was trained in the "Red Kite Drama Time" curriculum that was created by Jacqui Russell, Artistic Director of the Chicago Children's Theater, and David Rench, Special Education Teacher at the Agassiz School in Chicago. https://chicagochildrenstheatre.org/red-kite-project/

Since then, we have expanded our programs and have traveled throughout the Hudson Valley and Connecticut with our team to share our live, original theater productions, workshops and classes.

The Yellow Finch group of professional actors, musicians, artists and special educators have worked to create and develop a unique repertoire of programs.

A supportive, customized environment with small groups helps our students invent and explore stories, play new roles and interact with others. Our programs focus on imagination and creativity, and making connections within the group.

Yellow Finch will come to your classroom, library or community center to provide an individualized and developmentally appropriate program.  

We are available for presentations to organizational leaders in order to secure funding.

We are a member of the Arts and Education program of Putnam/Northern Westchester Boces

Our Neurodiverse Theater Clubs are made possible with funds from Arts Alive, a regrant program of ArtsWestchester with support from the Office of the Governor, the New York State Legislature, and the New York State Council on the Arts.

An Impact Boost Award from IMPACT100 Westchester will create new classroom programs and expand our reach throughout Westchester County.

We are grateful to the Autism Directory Service for underwriting our school tours of Bookmarks: Step Into Spectacular Story Adventures.

ACES2SPADES

Generous donations from Mr. John Ackerman of Aces2Spades has allowed us to develop new classroom programs and our new 2026 production, The Legacy of the Children of Lir.

Thanks to a grant from The Thomas and Agnes Carvel Foundation, Yellow Finch will create immersive Literary Workshops to make books accessible for children and teens who learn differently.
