Inspiring Children's Imagination Through Theater
The Yellow Finch Project is a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 organization created by a group of theater and educational professionals. Its mission is to enhance the lives of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other social-communication issues through dramatic arts. This unique program opens doors for children who struggle with communication and social skills to celebrate their creativity and cultivate new connections to the community. Students with special needs learn to use their imagination and explore their emotions within a fun and supportive group.
ALL presentations and sessions are tailored to the age, levels and abilities of your particular group. Groups average 10-12 students.
CLASSES
The Yellow Finch Theater Games Program is based on the "Red Kite Drama Time" curriculum that was created by Jacqui Russell, Artistic Director of the Chicago Children's Theater, and David Rench, Special Education Teacher at the Agassiz School in Chicago.
SHOWS
Uniquely designed for a special needs audience, The Yellow Finch has three, live productions that are available for touring. These interactive performances incorporate sensory activities, music, and projections to create an inclusive experience.
Our story
We were trained during a hurricane and have since taken the world by storm. A supportive environment with a high student to adult ratio helps your child invent and explore stories, play new roles and interact with others, while they act, sing and move.
Yellow Finch will come to your classroom, library or camp to provide an individualized and developmentally appropriate program for students with special needs. The program focuses on imagination and creativity and develops social skills and making connection within the group.
6 to 8, forty-five minute sessions provide an opportunity to establish a relationship with the group, set a routine and develop a project or theme. We are also happy to adapt a program of sessions which work for you and your group.
